State Longitudinal Data System (SLDS) Project

The SLDS project was initiated to build the existing capacity for research in each state in the REL Southeast's service region using the state's longitudinal data system. Each P-20W SLDS includes data from four major sectors: early childhood, K-12, higher education, and the workforce. Currently Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and South Carolina have P-20W SLDSs. In the initial phase of the project, the REL Southeast produced two online workshop videos; one video about P-20W SLDS basics and the second about using an SLDS for research and evaluation. The next phase of the project focused on developing a deeper understanding of the data and research capacity in each state in the region. The SLDS team gathered detailed information about each state's data systems and created state SLDS profiles. The current work of the SLDS project team is to produce a regional data scope matrix. Using the detailed SLDS information the REL Southeast collected from each state, the matrix compares data elements across the different education sectors included in each state's P-20W SLDS.
