Priority 2: Scaling up the Implementation of Rigorous Academic Standards

All states in the southeastern region have adopted the Common Core State Standards (Common Core) and have made progress toward implementing these standards to prepare students to meet the demands of college and 21st century careers. The Common Core standards are both robust and relevant to the demands of what students will need to be successful. The southeastern states are in various stages of implementation and are facing common tasks such as conducting crosswalks between their current standards and the new standards, determining the alignment of standards to state assessments, introducing new assessments and determining cut-points, evaluating the alignment between the content of teachers' instruction and new standards, and targeting curricular and instructional gap areas for improvement.
